At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of The Built Environment a position as Research Assistant in Life Cycle Assessment of Buildings are open for appointment from 15th of October 2025 or soon thereafter.

The position is available for a period of 2 years with the possibility for extension and will be with the Division of Sustainability of Buildings located in Copenhagen.

Your work tasks

The position is related to several research ongoing projects where we work with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of buildings. These projects aim to improve the current methods and knowledge within LCA. You will be working together with our researchers, gathering data, conducting analysis and engage in writing reports in Danish. You will also be involved in our collaboration with industry partners such as gathering data etc.

Your Competencies

  • A strong interest and curiosity in the environmental impacts of the built environment
  • Knowledge about current LCA methods applied in buildings in Denmark
  • Experience with the use of LCAbyg and use of EPD’s for LCA for buildings.
  • Experience with the use of Simapro, Open LCA or similar tools is desirable.

Qualification requirements

Appointment as a research assistant requires academic qualifications at master’s degree level (architect or engineer).

BUILD the Department of the Built Environment, research, advice and educate with a holistic approach in the complex issues of the urban, residential and construction area. We are a part of Aalborg University and have more than 300 employees located in both Aalborg and Copenhagen. The work of the division of Sustainability of Buildings revolves around the sustainability assessment of buildings and their surroundings. The division has a special focus on improving the environmental profile of buildings through the use of life cycle assessments (LCA) in the construction industry through our tool for the industry, LCAbyg. We support the construction sector’s opportunities to contribute to achieving the necessary climate goals, environmental sustainability, and circular economy. Our latest research includes increased used of timber and biomaterials in construction, carbon reduction pathways, bottom-up and top-down approaches for carbon regulation among others.
