The Department of Sustainability and Planning at The Technical Faculty of IT and Design invites applications for a position as associate professor in the field of Artificial Intelligence for applications in the broader sustainabil-ity and planning domains as per November 1st or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a 3-year fixed-term position.

The department was established in 1975. Today, the department is located in two beautiful harbour-front loca-tions in Aalborg and Copenhagen. We have more than 250 employees and approximately 1,160 students.
Our research and study programs are rooted in sustainability and the green transition. This means we conduct research in areas such as circular economy, technology, urban-, energy-, and environmental planning, as well as sustainable transition and design. Sustainability is central to our work in environmental assessment and marine management. In surveying and land use, sustainability is reflected in our efforts in nature restoration and climate adaptation.
As society continues to develop digitally, we also focus on responsible technology development, addressing real-life challenges. Our problem-oriented approach and close collaboration with businesses and public organizations form the foundation of all our study programs. Additionally, our engineering programs are among the best in Europe.

Your job responsibilities

Your main tasks will consist of: 

  • Research of high international quality, including publication in top international journals and communicating your research in national and international academic networks.
  • Teaching and supervision of bachelor’s and master’s degree students and contribution to the development of new teaching activities.
  • To contribute to the funding with the help of external research funding.
  • Supervision of PhD students and contributing to the development of the faculty’s PhD courses. 
  • Involvement in assessment and committee work at Aalborg University.
  • Dissemination of your research to the outside world. 

More specifically, the tasks for this position will include

  • Supporting the development and coordination of AI application and integration initiatives within existing research areas at the Department, that span broadly across sustainability and planning domains. 
  • Contribute to creating synergy and collaboration across research groups focused on AI application and inte-gration.
  • Rather than to develop new AI methods, the expectation is to bring existing AI tools and technologies into play in an application-oriented context within the Department’s research.
  • Supporting researchers in the use of relevant AI solutions and upskilling of staff in the use and understanding of AI. 
  • Supporting research groups in obtaining external funding for projects focusing fully or partly on AI integration.

You will report to the Head of Department Anne Merrild Hansen.

Administratively and for the daily activities you will be affiliated to the Life Cycle Sustainability group. Howev-er, it is expected that you will collaborate and have contacts with all research groups at the Department.

We expect you to be able to write and speak English at the academic level. 

In order to be assessed qualified for an associate professor position, you must meet these academic criteria.

Qualification requirements

It is a precondition that applicants have documented research at an international standard. In addition, applicants are assumed to have received supervision and pedagogical skills development and to have obtained a positive written assessment of their teaching qualifications.
