Scientist/Senior Scientist
The Biomedical Tissue Modeling and Organoid Research Infrastructure (TORI) is a newly established national core facility dedicated to the development, implementation, and dissemination of advanced cellular models, including patient-derived organoids, iPSC-based systems, and tissue-engineered models. Through open-access nodes in Copenhagen, Odense, and Aarhus, TORI will provide state-of-the-art technologies, expert support, and standardized platforms to enable innovative, scalable, and reproducible advanced cellular models across Denmark.
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically strong Scientist to serve as the primary scientific and technical lead for advanced cellular model workflows at the Aarhus TORI node. The successful candidate will play a central role in developing, optimizing, and maintaining advanced in vitro and ex vivo models and associated molecular workflows, while supporting internal and external research projects.
About MOMA
MOMA is a highly interdisciplinary department and one of the leading Nordic centers in molecular diagnostics and clinically applied precision medicine. The department delivers high-throughput DNA- and RNA-based clinical diagnostics while advancing translational research across multiple disease areas using state-of-the-art omics approaches. The department brings together expertise across molecular biology, clinical medicine, and data science/bioinformatics in a highly collaborative environment with strong local, national, and international partnerships.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and run workflows for advanced cellular and tissue models, including organoid-based systems
- Establish, operate, and continuously optimize automated and semi-automated culture and imaging platforms, including hands-on interaction with robotic and AI-assisted systems
- Contribute to standard operating procedures and reproducible research practices
- Provide hands-on technical support and training to users
- Support project design, optimization, and analysis, including definition of project requirements and prioritization
- Actively engage with internal and external stakeholders
- Contribute to the ongoing development and coordination of TORI as a national research infrastructure, including assisting with grant applications and grant reporting
- Proactively maintain a strong understanding of emerging methodologies and scientific needs
Qualifications
Required:
- PhD in Molecular Biology, Biomedical Science, Biotechnology, or a related field
- Strong hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture
- Ideally experience with organoids, iPSCs, or other advanced 3D cellular models
- Understanding of automated workflows, technology platforms, and shared research infrastructure
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple complex projects in parallel
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including fluency in oral and written English
- A collaborative mindset
- Experience coordinating technical staff, mentoring junior scientists, or contributing to shared research infrastructure operations
- Proven track record for innovation and scientific excellence
- Highly detail-oriented and comfortable troubleshooting complex scientific protocols
- Excellent time management, interpersonal and organisational skills
- Interest in precision and regenerative medicine and clinical translation
Desirable:
- Experience working in a core facility or translational research environment
- Experience with genome editing (CRISPR/Cas)
- Experience with high-throughput screening
- Familiarity with next-generation sequencing workflows and data interpretation
- Experience with regulatory/ethical committee applications

Terms of Employment
Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the relevant collective agreement. Appointment is conditional on a satisfactory child-protection certificate.
The position is full-time, with Aarhus University Hospital, Brendstrupgårdsvej 21A, Aarhus as the primary workplace.
