Beskrivelse af jobtilbuddet for Post doc., naturvidenskab og teknik

Job Posting

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design of the Department of Sustainability and Planning, Copenhagen, a position as Postdoctoral researcher in Geospatial Machine Learning for Predicting Land Use Dynamics under Compound Climate Impacts is open for appointment from the 1 May 2026 or soon thereafter. The position is available for a period of 18 months with possible extension providing a successful performance and contributions to the research activities of the Geoinformatics and Earth Observation (GEO) research group.

The department of Sustainability and Planning was established in 1975, and is located in two beautiful harbour-front locations in both Aalborg and Copenhagen. We have more than 250 employees and approximately 1,200 students across the two cities.

Our research and study programmes are rooted in sustainability and the green transition. This means we conduct research in areas such as the circular economy, technology, urban, energy, and environmental planning, as well as sustainable transition and design. Sustainability is central to our work in environmental assessment and marine management. In surveying and land use, sustainability is reflected in our efforts in nature restoration and climate adaptation.

As society continues to develop digitally, we also focus on responsible technological development, addressing real-life challenges. Our problem-oriented approach and close collaboration with businesses and public organisations form the foundation of all our study programmes. Additionally, our engineering programmes are among the best in Europe.

Job

This position is specifically about modelling cascading and compound impacts of climate change on future Danish land use in which spatial data analytics, earth observation, climate change, machine learning expertise, land use science, and spatial modelling skills are needed. The other position will be mainly focusing on adjusting and transferring probabilistic machine learning models for spatio-temporal data while quantifying uncertainties associated with climate projection data and models. Therefore, it is important to have two complementary profiles to work closely and have synergic collaboration effects.

We expect a motivated early career researcher with strong interest and experience with GIS/earth observation/climate projection data as well as machine learning models for predictive modelling and large foundation models for earth systems.

Skillsets such as programming in Python/R, Google Earth Engine, JavaScript, database management environments, Geographical AI, and machine learning workflows are important. The task can be expanded by contributing to other research projects of the Geoinformatics and Earth Observation (GEO) group, for example on GIS for positive energy districts planning, 15min city mobility analysis, and marine spatial planning, among others.

Limited teaching within the area can be expected, but also in other study programmes at the University.
