Beskrivelse af jobtilbuddet for Post doc., naturvidenskab og teknik

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Materials and Production, a post doc position is available from 01.10.2026 or soon hereafter. The duration of the position is one year.

Are you interested in advancing carbon capture technologies through fundamental and applied research in chemistry and materials science? The Department of Materials and Production at Aalborg University invites applications for a 1-year full-time postdoctoral position in chemistry and engineering, starting 1 October 2026. The position is part of the scientific staff and focuses on inorganic chemistry, coordination chemistry and ligand design for carbon capture applications.

Your work tasks

As a postdoctoral researcher in the materials science and engineering research group, you will contribute to ongoing research efforts that explore how inorganic and coordination compounds can be designed, synthesized and characterized for efficient carbon capture.

Your primary responsibility will be to carry out independent and collaborative research within carbon capture, with a strong focus on synthetic inorganic chemistry, coordination chemistry and ligand design. You will work with synthesis and characterization of inorganic and coordination compounds, including discrete complexes and related systems, using methods such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and spectroscopic techniques to understand structure–property relationships and performance.

air- and moisture-sensitive compounds

You will be expected to publish your results in high-quality journals and present your work at relevant conferences and scientific events. The position includes active participation in proposal writing and funding applications, where you will contribute your expertise and results to strengthen the research portfolio in carbon capture and inorganic chemistry. Depending on departmental needs and your interests, you may be involved in teaching and supervision tasks, for example supervising student projects or contributing to course activities.

The role entails collaboration with colleagues across disciplines within the materials science and engineering group, and you will interact daily with chemists, materials scientists, mechanical engineers and physicists.

Qualification requirements

Appointment as postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.

Your competencies

You hold a PhD in Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, or a closely related discipline. You have documented research experience within one or more of the following areas:

  • Synthetic inorganic chemistry
  • Coordination chemistry
  • Inorganic and coordination complexes
  • Ligand design and synthesis
  • Experimental inorganic chemistry related to gas binding or carbon capture

You are familiar with synthesis and characterization of inorganic compounds and are comfortable working with techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and spectroscopic methods for structural and functional analysis.

You have strong practical experience in synthetic chemistry, including air- and moisture-sensitive synthesis, using Schlenk line techniques and/or glovebox work. You are confident in planning and carrying out synthetic work, as well as purification, crystallization, and characterization of inorganic and coordination compounds.

You can plan and conduct experimental work in a laboratory setting, and you work in a structured and reliable way, taking care of both safety and data quality. You are able to work independently and take ownership of research activities, from planning experiments to analyzing data and writing publications, while at the same time contributing actively to joint projects and shared group activities.

Teaching and supervision experience is not a formal requirement for this position. However, you should be willing to support students and colleagues in the laboratory and to present your research to different audiences when needed.

You communicate fluently in English, both in writing and orally, and are comfortable presenting your work in an international environment. You have strong communication skills and can explain complex inorganic chemical concepts clearly to colleagues and collaborators. As a colleague, you bring a collaborative mindset and a willingness to contribute to group activities, including seminars, meetings and shared research initiatives.
