The position
The Department of Clinical Epidemiology is a highly specialized research department operating at an international level within clinical epidemiology. Our mission is to contribute to improved diagnostics and treatment, thereby enhancing patients’ prognosis.
We pursue this mission through four main activities
- free and independent research at an internationally high level within diagnostics, treatment and prognosis
- methodological development
- a graduate programme
- advisory services to clinical departments and public authorities in matters related to clinical epidemiology
Department of Clinical Epidemiology builds on the long-standing tradition of research and teaching in epidemiology at Aarhus University. Your job responsibilities
The main tasks are
- serve as a day-to-day manager of the Soon Parent Study Cohort. The appointee will work closely with and report to the cohort leader and Principal Investigator, Professor Henrik Toft Sørensen, with whom a long-term plan for cohort sustainability must be developed
- tasks include contributing to and overseeing the preparation of required approvals and data applications for studies conducted in collaboration with academic, public, and industry partners
- develop and contribute to internal and external standard scientific documentation from study initiation, including study protocols, statistical analysis plans, and reports, in accordance with project timelines
- contribute to ensuring that dietary data are utilized within the department’s cohorts, including assisting other researchers in the use and classification of these data
- collaborate in various research roles with national and international academic and contract research organisations, primarily on studies on reproduction, nutrition, and medical treatment using regularly collected health data, and self-reported data
- work closely with internal and external experts to ensure that each project has the necessary clinical, statistical, and epidemiological expertise, as well as high data quality
- take the lead in (co-)authoring relevant peer-reviewed articles, ensuring appropriate interpretation of results and timely publication of important epidemiological findings
- develop an independent research agenda and actively seek external research funding
- contribute to teaching and supervision at undergraduate and graduate levels at the Aarhus University Faculty of Health. Subject to qualifications, affiliation as an external lecturer at Aarhus University may be possible.
The composition of the tasks may vary according to the department’s research priorities. However, the position will support the continued development of the employee’s research qualifications.
The candidate
- a PhD degree or equivalent academic qualifications, with strong formal training in epidemiologic methods in one or more of the following areas: reproductive epidemiology and nutritional epidemiology
- advanced training in epidemiologic principles and methods, with demonstrated ability to apply these methods appropriately and to critically interpret findings from epidemiological studies
- experience in collaborating with national and international research groups in reproductive epidemiology, including the ability to establish and maintain effective and productive collaborations with stakeholders in both academic and non-academic sectors
- experience in planning, designing, coordinating, and conducting epidemiological studies – from protocol development and statistical analysis planning to publication – using routinely collected and self-reported data and applying state-of-the-art epidemiologic methods
- strong analytical and writing skills, as well as a documented track record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations at international conferences.

- be mature and ambitious, demonstrate a strong sense of ownership, and possess good communication and interpersonal skills
- be able to work independently, take responsibility, and effectively plan and prioritise their own work
- supervise and coordinate the work of study coordinators, statisticians, and epidemiologists, and engage relevant clinical expertise when needed
- demonstrate the ability to plan and oversee the successful implementation of long-term, multi-stakeholder projects
- possess fluency in spoken and written English
- the candidate will collaborate with and report to professor Henrik Toft Sørensen on matters related to research and teaching.
